A few more misconceptions I have chosen to start leaving behind:
- I thought I had to be led by another man otherwise I would end up lost.
- I thought leaders were always right and closer to God.
- I thought God and I were separated.
- I thought God was only near when I was good.
- I thought God was also ashamed of those parts in my life where I am still in the shadows.
- I thought my false self was the real me.
- I thought Jesus was a perfectionist.
- I thought answer to prayer was the number 1 evidence that God heard me and cared about me.
- I thought the better I knew the Bible the better I understood God.
- I thought Adam was kicked out of the garden for breaking the rules instead of choosing them over trust and relationship.
- I thought pretending was part of the Christian walk.
- I thought life was all about making things permanent and right.
- I thought the Bible was the only way to feed my inner man.
- I thought God left the room when my wife and I made love.
- I thought I was a branch in the vine instead of the whole vine within a branch.
- I thought the garden of Eden was just a place instead of a relational space and a picture of my heart.
Thank God that both the journey and the list continue…
Have a great week!
